The Hannah PROJECT PARTNERSHIP FOR

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

The Hannah Project Partnership for Academic Achievement (HPPAA/ The Hannah Partnership) is a community-based college and career preparatory program that equips youth and their families with the knowledge, skills, and strategies that build academic proficiency, develop character, and prepare students for school, college, and career success.

The Hannah Partnership brings together multiple programs and strategies to improve social, emotional and academic outcomes for Marin City and other low-income students that will reverse patterns of low achievement and drop outs.

Based on the concept, "it takes a village,"  the Hannah Partnership engages a variety of youth serving organizations — the Hannah Project, the Tam Beacon Center, the Marin City Network, the Marin City Community Development Corporation, the Children's Defense Fund and others — in a coordinated effort to create a year round comprehensive community based learning environment for  more than 120  young people 8–22 years of age.

Our Mission

The mission of the Hannah Project Partnership is to boost the academic performance and college graduation rates of African American and other low-income students of color in Marin County.

Our Vision

To create a culture in Marin City and other low income communities that fosters achievement and makes college and career success both an expectation and the norm.

Our Approach

The Hannah Project believes that communities and families play  essential roles in eradicating the achievement gap. We know that Marin City has long needed a strong community based approach to promote and support education and achievement for all its students - one that eliminates fragmentation and is based on intense collaboration to achieve better coordination of services, leverage resources, and develop tool and programs to help Marin City students attain the academic acumen and work skills necessary to achieve lifelong dreams.

We are engaged in designing and managing a year round comprehensive community based learning environment that sets high standards and expectations for its students while strengthening families’ abilities to be strong advocates for their children.

By joining forces with other like minded organizations, the Hannah Partnership has created a community infrastructure that will:

  1. Provide a defined pathway to help low achieving students navigate the transition from middle school to high school and from high school to college and career

  2. Set  high community standards for achievement and behavior; and

  3. Expand work and career options for youth

Our Strategies

Believing that bridging the achievement gap for black youngsters requires a four-pronged strategy that involves the student, family, community, and schools in a coordinated effort to change outcomes, Hannah works with these entities to:

  1. Help students achieve and maintain academic proficiency in core subjects with 3.0 grade point average or better;

  2. Prepare students to graduate high school and college with adequate financial resources;

  3. Ensure families are confident and equipped to support students and navigate the process through college enrollment and graduation;

  4. Advocate for schools to incorporate cultural and historical contributions of African Americans in their curricula;

  5. Create a data system to better track Marin City student achievement; and

  6. Formalize relationships with school district personnel and other stakeholders interested in improving and expanding educational options for students
