WHAT WE DO

"Bring me all of your dreams,

You dreamers,

Bring me all of your

Heart melodies

That I may wrap them

In a blue cloud-cloth

Away from the too-rough fingers

Of the world."

- Langston Hughes

Our Junior Servant Leaders

"Every child-no matter their stripe or stature-deserves equal access to a quality education. That's what we say, what we believe, and what's required under the law…. Depriving a child of a fair chance to learn is wicked, it's warped, it's morally bankrupt, and it's corrupt. Your skin color or zip code should not determine winners and losers."

-California State Attorney General Becerra

STRATEGY: Bringing Thought Leaders and Practitioners to Marin, Hosting Provocative Conversations and Building a Learning Community Focused on Disrupting Institutional Racism

  • What is Structural Racism?

    • Structural Racism is the normalization and legitimization of an array of dynamics - historical, cultural, institutional and interpersonal - that routinely advantage whites while producing cumulative and chronic adverse outcomes for people of color. It is a system of hierarchy and inequity, primarily characterized by white supremacy - the preferential treatment, privilege and power for white people at the expense of Black, Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Arab and other racially oppressed people. Structural Racism encompasses the entire system of white supremacy, diffused and infused in all aspects of society, including our history, culture, politics, economics and our entire social fabric.
    •  It is the most profound and pervasive form of racism - all other forms of racism (e.g. institutional, interpersonal, internalized, etc.) emerge from structural racism.
    • The key indicators of structural racism are inequalities in power, access, opportunities, treatment, and policy impacts and outcomes, whether they are intentional or not.
  • What is Institutional Racism?

    • Institutional racism occurs within and between institutions. Institutional racism is discriminatory treatment, unfair policies and inequitable opportunities and impacts, based on race, produced and perpetuated by institutions (schools, mass media, etc.). Individuals within institutions take on the power of the institution when they act in ways that advantage and disadvantage people, based on race.
  • Dismantling Racism Workshops and Conversations

    • Quarterly convenings that bring together thought leaders, practitioners and interested parties in conversations and learning communities that identify promising practices that disable racism in educational institutions.

STRATEGY: Partnering with allies willing to use their privilege to expose racism and injustice wherever they see it; leverage their influence to bring those outside in joining forces with the Hannah project to end inequity in our local school systems

    • A leadership opportunity for supporters who are interested in an on-going relationship with our organization and are dedicated to promoting the Hannah Project, our beliefs, and equitable education strategies. Ambassadors  help increase fundraising, drive  conversations, and/or build awareness of Hannah and equity needs - online, offline and through word-of-mouth. Ambassadors agree to undergo an orientation process and attend periodic briefings and meetings.

My heart cannot contain the joy and excitement created by the return of the Hannah Project. There has been a tremendous void in the community left by the exit of the Hannah Project. Marin City is vitalized [ now that you are back]! The sky is the limit….

-Andrea

My hope is that the Hannah Project continues to help children realize their dreams and reach their potential. Hannah has made a huge impact in not only reframing students belief that a higher education was possible, but for people in the community as well. You are a blessing.
